Augmented Times – Monthly Augmented Reality News – March 2024

[La version francaise de cette veille est disponible sur le site de RA’pro. La traduction est en partie assurer par « Google translate ». No AIs were injured in this production.]

The month of March was full of announcements in the augmented reality sector even if most were overshadowed by announcements in the field of AI and the various tests of Apple’s Vision Pro (yes, yes I too gave in). If you too want to test it, come to Laval Virtual which starts next Wednesday.

On the business side, the partnership between Microsoft and the US Army is not dead as we have often heard. Trials and tests continue, allowing the American company to move forward on Hololens V3. For Meta, the news is in AR glasses, adding its “in-house” AI and preparing the evolution of the current model. You will also note that the hardware announcements are also very focused on glasses. Many companies want to take a position in this market as we saw at the last CES. The 2024 edition of the Mobile World Congress only confirmed this strategy.

On the software side, the trend is towards simplifying the creation of AR experiences, with in particular the announcement of the launch of Shader by an ex-Snap or that of Pixotope Pocket. This simplification, which will be further boosted by the use of generative AI, contributes to the diffusion of this technology. Moreover, you see that medicine is a sector where augmented reality is used more and more.

See you next month!

Is generative AI the “killer app” of augmented reality glasses? – Augmented Reality – Augmented Reality

We have addressed the question of the usefulness of “AR” glasses several times on site. If, on a professional level, we can find multiple examples, in the consumer market things are very different. At least, “were” very different until today. Because, yes, there could well be a major change happening with the arrival of on-board generative AI, perhaps we are seeing the development of the killer app of “smart glasses”.

We went to talk about it with Charles-Henri Marraud des Grottes, CEO of Studio XR One, which today offers its Mizik application after several years of experimentation at the frontiers of music, cinema and immersion.
